Angel Brings Holiday Cheer to Children at CCIL

20 year veteran volunteer at the Chicago Christian Industrial League, Dorothy B. Johnson, makes the holiday season special

Chicago, IL – December 12, 2006 - A 20 year veteran volunteer at the Chicago Christian Industrial League, brought Christmas cheer to the children in the form of a Christmas party. The party, hosted by CCIL angel Dorothy B. Johnson, was one of many.

For the past 20 years, Ms. Johnson has given the children at CCIL Easter, Halloween, and Christmas celebrations, she has orchestrated summer cookouts, and a summer safety program arranged through the Chicago Police Department. Dorothy has been described by residents at CCIL as, “irreplaceable”. It was no surprise that this year’s party held at CCIL, 2750 W. Roosevelt Road, on Tuesday, December 12th, 2006 at 5:30pm, was a complete success.

Christmas carols, cookies, gifts, and a visit from Santa Claus brought smiles to all who joined in the festivities. When asked why she helps with all of the celebrations, Dorothy said, “I love helping people. I started volunteering here with the women’s program in 1988. We worked hard to give the women life skills such as how to balance their checkbooks, how to interview for a job, and information about school preparation for accessible entry level jobs. It is rewarding to see the children’s smiling faces and of course, all that energy.” Dorothy certainly has the same energy and enthusiasm as the kids. CCIL is grateful for her hard work and support!
