North Lawndale Resident's Story

Bobby and Sheila Green tell how the Community Food Pantry has provided assistance to them and their families

When North Lawndale residents Bobby and Sheila Green's rent rose by 20% this last year, they decided cuts needed to be made to their grocery lists.  These cuts would soon affect them and their children.  This is a decision no family should have to make.  Luckily, with the help of the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD), Bobby and Sheila have been able to seek assistance through CCIL's Community Food Pantry.

With the rapidly rising food costs in our city, it's nearly impossible for the poor to keep up.  These individuals and families are our city's neediest.  You can help by making a direct donation to our agency, running a non-perishable food drive at your office or church or volunteering your time at the Greater Chicago Food Depository on behalf of CCIL.  By doing this, GCFD gives our agency a credit on the food we purchase from them.
